We are pleased to share registration will open the next few days! Registration deadlines via this Chester Basketball site will be as follows:

  • October 10th
    • Travel Teams: Boys Grades 4 - 8
  • November 18th
    • Clinics: Boys & Girls Grades K - 2
    • Transitional Teams: Boys & Girls Grades  3 - 4
    • Recreational Teams: Boys Grades 5 - 8

Important Note for Girls Registration

Chester/Mendham combine girls travel teams for grades 4 - 8 and combine girls recreational teams teams for grades 5 - 8. Registration is now open on the Mendham Basketball site for these teams and closes on October 7th. 

 

Divisions of play include:

K-2 Clinic: Open to Boys and Girls in grades K - 2nd.  Clinics will be separated by grade and the cost is $150/registrant. Clinics will begin in December. Clinics for K-2 will be held on Saturdays. The K-2 clinic will emphasize individual skills, basic fundamentals and techniques, team play, and overall fitness and well-being in a positive teaching and learning environment. Our approach to coaching and instruction focuses primarily on teamwork, sportsmanship, self-confidence and improvement. Ultimately teaching and instructing is the primary objective but also and more importantly, we want to provide a fun and exciting atmosphere.

3rd and 4th Grade Transitional: Open to All Boys and Girls in the 3rd and 4th grades. Teams will be formed separately for boys and girls. Focus is on further development of skills through one night of practice and one night of games among other in-town teams.  $200/registrant.  The in-town teams will begin practice/games in December.

5th through 8th Grade Recreational: Open to all boys and girls in the  5th through 8th grades. Teams will be formed separately for boys and girls grouped as 5/6th and 7/8th. Chester boys recreational team registration and information is found here on the Chester Baskteball site. Chester/Mendham girls recreational team registration and information is found on the Mendham Baskteball site. Focus is on further development of skills through practices and competitive games among other in-town teams. The cost is $200/registrant. The in-town teams will begin practice/games in November.

Boys Travel: Travel teams are highly competitive and compete in the Jersey Basketbal League (JBL). Travel teams for boys and girls start in 4th grade and extend through 8th grade. Chester boys travel team registration and information is found here on the Chester Baskteball site. Chester/Mendham girls travel team registration and information is found on the Mendham Baskteball site. Participation on a travel team last year does not guarantee participation on a travel team this year. The cost is $300/registrant. Tyrouts will take place from October 11th - October 21st. 

Chester Boys Recreational & Travel for Same Player: Players who are on a travel team are permitted to play on a Rec team also.  Register this player separately within each division during the same registration process. In other words, register this player as if he/she were two separate players within your family - one registration for an in-town team, the other registration for a travel team. You will be charged the full fee for travel, but will receive a 50% DISCOUNT for recreational league registration.

2022 Kindergarten Clinic

The Kindergarten clinic will emphasize individual skills, basic fundamentals and techniques, team play, and overall fitness and well-being in a positive teaching and learning environment. Our approach to coaching and instruction focuses primarily on teamwork, sportsmanship, self-confidence and improvement.Specifically the clinic will focus on:

  • Ball Handling: Basic ability to keep head up and be able to utilize both hands
  • Shooting: Proper form to make a basket
  • Layups: Proper way to jump off the correct foot and utilize the backboard
  • Defense: Correct ways to slide, hand placement, backwards shuffle & running
  • Passing/Catching: Proper bounce and chest pass techniques as well as learning how to properly receive/catch the pass
  • Rules: Basic knowledge and rules of the game such as positions and areas of the court

The clinic’s goal is provide the above skills development while also creating a fun environment for the kids.
